The use of fireworks in the city had consistently increased since the legalization of some firework devices in the State of New York and in Albany County. The use of large illegal firework displays every night of the week during the summer months caused stress to residents and pets for hours at a time and placing homes in significant danger. Everyone should have the right to peacefully enjoy this city but inconsiderate residents continued to make our neighborhoods sound like war zones. Through A Block at a Times organization and guidance, the ABAAT Fireworks Community Collective was able to change the law and get Albany County Legislators to re-ban fireworks in Albany County on September 14, 2020.
